ProRes for Final Cut

I have everyone,

I have FCP 5.1.4 installed on my MacBook and I was wondering where do I get ProRes to be used in my system.

Do they sell it or is it a free download?

Hope you guys can help me, I am about to get a Canon 7D and I read I need ProRes to get in FCP to edit.

Thanks in advance,

Camilo

Upgrade your final cut. Prores was introduced in Final Cut Studio 2, the version after the one you're using.

Or just download the codecs from Apple Software Update's open access HTTP website.

This is not the "complete" solve, look around for a better one. As you have other tie-ins with FCP like the RADPlug for 7D camera and AVCHD trans-coding issues.
Certain menu options could be absent or blacked out.

Leopard 10.5.6 supports ProRes 422 playout (not create) w/o FCP or Quicktime Pro edition stuff installed, DVCPRO no, Prores 422 yes...
