Need to convert my AVCHD files to a Prores codec, I downloaded the codec from Apple but can't find it in Media Incoder or Quicktime Pro.
Help! what am i missing?
Downloaded 5DtoRGB program, seems to work but can only do one file at a time.

I don't think you can use Prores unless you have FCPX or FCP7. The cheapest way to get the codec to use for exporting would be to buy Compressor from the app store if your on a Mac. If your a Windows user I don't think you can export to any Prores codecs since Apple doesn't sell the codec for Microsoft Windows.

I'm uploading these files, shot on my AF100, to an FTP site via my PC. But after some testing I think my best bet is to just upload the nicely compressed AVCHD files and let the transcoding happen at the other end.
and oh boy do these files swell in size when they are transcoded!
thanks for all the input.

You can transcode to ProRes under Windows using 5DtoRGB as well.
Really? Have you done that on a PC?

I looked at the Windows read me and it doesn't include ProRes as a format option for export.

Output Format - Choose the output format to which you want to transcode. Selecting a QuickTime(MOV) option will output a QuickTime file with embedded timecode. Selecting an AVI option willoutput an AVI file without embedded timecode. The following codecs / picture formats aresupported:
Uncompressed 8 bit 4:2:2 (UYVY)Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2 (v210)
Avid DNxHD (common bit rates supported)

The following are lossless RGB formats, suitable for visual effects work:QuickTime Animation (RLE)
HuffYUV (typically used with AVI format)

Nope.

DPX, ProRes and DNxHD output (DPX & ProRes Mac only, DNxHD Windows only) (DPX & ProRes Mac only, DNxHD Windows only)

DPX is not platform dependent. And DNxHD goes into a QuickTime container, so it's highly unlikely it's Windows only. If it were, it'd be using the standard Windows AVI container.

Hey guys, let's see if I can clear things up. 5DtoRGB 1.5.6b2 for Windows will indeed encode to ProRes. ProRes encoding is not mentioned in the documentation because this is an unfinished version, but ProRes output is available. 5DtoRGB for Windows is free, so anyone is welcome to download it and test it.

Sorry but i have the opposite problem. I use premiere cs5 on mac . Today i shot some test with hyperdeck shuttle2. Both dnxhd .mov and prores. But premiere don't want to import both files. i have the dnxhd codec installed but didn't work. I've installed the prores codec to library/quictime, i can export prores files now from premiere but still don't want to import the prores files. any suggestions? files play on desktop without any problem..

Something is seriously wrong with your OS. I have never had any issues with Premiere/ProRes on the OSX platform, either reading or exporting to.

Same problem, I can't import ProRes HQ files into CS5 on mac eventhou codec is installed. I can play prores files fine using Wondershare software, Quicktime player 7, and Black magic media express. Files where recorded with HyperDeck Studio. I even installed Compressor to see if it would help. Any ideas? I guess I can always upgrade to CS6.

I had the exact same problem importing 10bit prores files from the BM Shuttle V2. Import failed in Permier Cs5. But I can confirm that the files work fine in Cs6

Surinder.
