Props Everyone Wants But Are Hard To Find Or Too Expensive?

It's pretty interesting that thing about scanning and printing dollar bills. I tried taking a photo of one just now with the 7D and open it in photoshop elements, and there was no problem. I can't find the power cable to my printer/scanner though so can't try that.

Can't help wondering if Adobe is sending user info to the US government about things like this too.

Everyone starts somewhere. This young man is just trying to figure out that point. Help instead of discouragement is what we should be offering.
That is what we are all trying to do, Paul. But also show him the realities of what he wants to do. A person could get themselves in serious trouble really fast, if they just went blindly into working with prop guns/explosives/money and selling them.

I, for one, would be disappointed in myself if I just said "yeah, go for it" and did not give him the benefit of what I have learned and experienced. Same if anyone else did the same.

If someone asked about the specifics of buying a camera to start a new business, would we tell them "yes, go for it"? Or would we help them by explaining the complex issues involved with owning and using one as running a business, so their information was more complete? Would we discuss what camera would best suit their needs and why? I don't see this as any different, other than I can speak with some knowledge on the subject.

What he wants to do, and I applaud him for having a eye towards business, though, he can run afoul of the guys with badges quick.

But, that being said, I have offered him one-on-one time, so I could help him avoid some of the pitfalls and issues that could potentially put him in legal jeopardy. So I don't see how anyone is not encouraging and educating him, they are just not blindly encouraging him.

And Jawa, yeah, sad to say........you probably just got put on a "list" somewhere. Welcome to my world. With all the gun forums and my contact with manufacturers and web searches I have to do.......I bet I am high on a bunch of lists. Especially when I had to research what a tactical nuke looked like........I felt eyes on me, LOL.

Oh well, the price of doing what I do.

It's like that guy in Ireland who got in serious trouble for joking on twitter about blowing up an airplane.

Thanks for the information everyone, I've already started on the money, I have 10-100 dollar bills.
I edited on my own pictures of each president etc, but without your information I wouldn't have known to edit the seal, names, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, etc.
I also really like the idea of making 3d effects.
Doc I wasn't thinking of making a prop house per-say but just a small niche ebay operation for mainly action movies, So guns, Bombs, Money, etc. [props of course]
Also, About the orange blaze tip, Would it be possible to make some sort of orange plug for the gun and ship it out? So that it's removable for filming but not my fault if they do anything illegal with it
Thanks, I'll post one of my designs up here when I finish it, I hope you guys can leave more feedback/facts/opinions.

The scanners I used were 2 models of EPSON and 1 genius. The programs were Corel Photopaint and Adobe Photoshop. The problem begins after I roatated it to proper orientation, crop them at the edges, then printed.

Could well be your first mistake, everyone involved gets hauled into court here.

btw you might have to be of legal age before your post counter on the left starts totalling up, reading 0 at present, don't let that stop you.

Cheers.

According to the regs, in order to sell airsofts, they have to have the orange permanently attached. Once the purchaser owns them, they can do whatever they want with it, as long as it follows state/local laws. Here in CA, I can rent them and possess them without orange tips for two reasons:

1. I don't sell them (if I did, I would have to have the orange tips)
2. As a prop company, there is a "dispensation" specifically in the law for what I do.

But......... if I was to ever sell a prop firearm through my business, the orange has to go back on. You need to read that 15CFR1150, it explains a lot. That is the first thing I can do for you, here's the link: http://law.justia.com/cfr/title15/15-3.1.3.7.1.html

Don't let 1150.4 fool you. That waiver is specifically for ownership and rentals, not manufacturing and selling. As a prop house, I can own them and modify them, but the second I try to sell them, waiver gone. Plus you have to look at local laws. And where the prop is going. Some states, if you ship into that state something not within the law, you get busted too. Because you are the shipper and you are the one that should have known better. A business is supposed to understand their business and jurisdictions they do business with.

Would anyone know what kind of paper I should use?
I got some prop money as a reference and it doesn't use regular white printer paper.

I would try using something like newsprint paper. It will look plenty real enough on camera. I once had to fabricate a newspaper prop for a short film. Went to an art supply store (Michael's, actually) and bought an artist's sketchpad with newsprint paper in it. Tore a sheet out, folded it in half, and it fed through my inkjet printer just fine. That might work.
