My fancy new Panasonic HMC150 arrived a few days ago, and I'm mostly shooting in 24p mode which gets recorded at 1080/60i. I had read in various forums methods for importing that AVCHD footage correctly into FCP such that it converted it properly to a 24p project ("properly" meaning removing the pulldown and correctly dealing with the interlacing). However, the way I've been doing it is much simpler than anything else I've read, and it seems to be working 100% correctly, but I'm unsure if maybe it isn't.
I'm setting up my custom Easy Setup like so:
Then, I do the usual Log and Transfer which doesn't really give me any options, so I log it as ProRes 422.
This "appears" to be working perfectly. The resulting project says that it is 23.98fps non-interlaced (Field Dominance = None):
The imported AVCHD files also appear as being 23.98fps / non-interlaced:
If I step thru frame-by-frame, it appears correct. The pull-down has been removed and all is well.
Is it really that simple? Were all the other forums that I read where you have to import it as 1080/60i and then run it thru Compressor first all overkill? Or am I missing something, and this really isn't what it seems?
Thanks,
-Brian
