Proper settings for importing AVCHD

I am having a problem getting my Macbook to play the 1080 footage captured by my HMC150. It will play the 720 footage but when I try to play the 1080 footage on the timeline I only hear audio and there is just a grey box where the footage should be. However I do see the video on the LOG and Transfer. Very weird, is there anyone that can give me some tips on what I might be doing wrong? Is there a timeline settin that will allow 1080?

Just guessing:

Macbook or Mackbook Pro? If only a macbook it may not be powerful enough to handle 1080 or it's graphics card may not be able to handle it.

Are you transcoding to Pro Res?

Its a Macbook Pro 2.2ghz Intel core 2 duo
with a geForce 8600m GT video card.

Whats weird is I have a buddy whos laptop is similar and I transcode to Prores so no its quicktime and I bring that file over to my laptop and it plays just fine. So there is something going on when it is transcoding the 1080 in my system

Can you play the clip in the viewer in FCP? Or does it not work at all in fcp. Guess I should ask what version of FCP are you using?

If it works in the viewer but not on the timeline, my guess is the sequence settings and clip settings do not match. If you are trying to play the 1080 footage on the same timeline as the 720 that may be where you are having problems.
