Proper formatting for an animated map overlay on screen?

I want to format a scene where we go from a vehicle moving to quickly showing an animated map on screen with the route the vehicle takes and then back to the vehicle (think something like the indiana jones films where when he flies it shows the map with the marker being drawn. Anyone know the proper method?
 
INSERT: Animated map shows progress.

Or something similar.

Technically you would use INSERT when someone is looking at something (like a map) and you want to show what they're looking at. But I've seen it used in this case as well.
