Proper 24p Workflow . . . ?

I shot a commercial with a panasonic dvx100b . Used the same tape to shoot in both , 60i and 24p modes. I would shoot several takes in 60i , then after that switch to 24p .

Right now all our work machines have crapped out firewire ports and I have lost the original tape . So when I did capture the tape, it was on a video toaster 3 using the normal NTSC 29.97 setting for DV video.

I decided to use Adobe Premiere 1.5 since I haven't upgraded to the CS3 version yet on my machine. Used the panasonic settings for 24p .

Put footage on timeline, exported a few clips as AVI's to take into AE CS3 . Exported as dv 24p advanced ....

Problem is . . . I didn't shoot it as 24pA . So am I exporting the clips right? Or does it just need to be 29.97 ?

Right now the spot is basically finished just bad blur/stuttery video .

Also to note . . . when I import the clips into AE CS3 , the interpretation for the footage is set to 23.976 fps, 3:2 Removal (WWSWW - 24P Advance) . Does it need to be removing 3:2 pulldown already? Since I'm still taking the clips into post after and editing. Just a bit confused on all this.

I have read numerous web-sites, boards, and just can't piece together an answer for myself . It just looks horrible on a HDTV and even computer of course.

If you don't shoot 24pA, Premiere Pro 1.5 is just about the worst possible choice. PP 2.0 and later are great, but 1.5 had serious, known issues with 24p standard.

Not sure what you're asking here. Can you clarify?

EDIT: OK, looking at this again, if you're asking if you should have pulldown removed at the compositing stage, then the answer is a resounding yes. You definitely want to be working with progressive frames there.

Pulldown removal should happen before you do anything with the footage.

Okay thanks . I have just yet to upgrade to PP CS3 yet , had used the preview version before and it didn't work too well so I didn't want to waste money on the final version . I will just see what I can do , thanks .
