Within despair lies opportunity... movies can't keep going in the wacky gimmicky way they've been going (most recent Raiders vs. the original Raiders, for example)... I'm somewhat confident that classic filmmaking and solid stories are still out there waiting to be told to a receptive audience.
 
Hollywood had it's highest grossing year EVER this year, far from dead, just not making movies you like although Hollywood has always made bad movies but they sell and most make money.

Are you on some kind of medication to think some low budget teen movie makes Hollywood dead?

Cartoons have been a staple in Hollywood forever; Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi ...

Miley Cyrus is another flash in the pan getting her 15 Minutes; Hollywood did not have television like we do now; Nickelodeon, Mtv, Fox Family Channel ..... the Internet

Nick is bad ass; why don't people like him ?

Rumble Fish, Leaving Las Vegas, Moonstruck, Raising Arizona .... dude won an Oscar. Never understood the hate; although he does make movies purely for money these days (National Treasure, etc)
 
I remember an interview a while back with some old timer who had been in the business since the early days, and he said people who complain about modern hollywood movies compared to the "golden age" weren't around then. He said the baseline of quality today is far higher than it was back then. Today, if you see a studio film you are guaranteed acting and technical quality of at least a certain level. There was a TON of crap released by Hollywood in the old days that was embarrassing on all levels, ineptly crafted junk that has just disappeared. And there was far more of it. Something like 80 percent of all films ever made have been destroyed. Of course the classics are better...that's why they're classics.

Ditto...I think Nick Cage is like the Brian DePalma of acting. When he's good, he's great, when he's bad...he's deliriously bad...But it's the kind of badness only a highly skilled person can achieve.
