I was about to buy the Amaran 672 until a mate mentioned he was getting the VL-1144 Light.

Twice as many LEDs for 1.5x the cost (in Aust, roughly $325 Amaran (with 3rd party batteries) V $450 for Promaster (no battery)

Does anyone on these forums have any feedback re this light?

What battery would you use to power the light?

cheers all

Uh.... I'd hesitate.

First off - the Aputure 672 is about $200 U.S. and this Promaster is listed everywhere at $400.

Second - The Promaster design is about 4 or 5 years old. They say nothing about CRI, but at that age it's going to be bad.

Third - No remote. As soon as you put your light up high or on the other side of the room that remote will become your best friend.

Fourth - Twice as many lights only means twice as powerful if it's powered the same way internally. This varies WIDELY from maker to maker.

Fifth - No onboard battery option. Those external packs are expensive, heavy, and cumbersome.

Eighty seventh - (Why the hell did I start counting??) In the old Youtube videos of them that I found they really do not look very bright at all when the reviewer turns them all the way up.

If you're willing to spend more than the Aputure and you want a more powerful GOOD light then look into these from Came-TV. Lot's of folks have them and they are very well regarded.

DP, have you ordered from Light in the Box before? They're about 70-80 bucks less for the Aputure 672 than ebay but are they reliable resellers?

The number of leds is of no importance, they make diodes in a wide range of powers, take a look
what matters is total power of the leds, this is affected by the power of the individual leds and the number of them.
