project with HD & SD

I'm going to be working on a project in the near future that is a bit of a "mix tape" in terms of footage shot by different individuals on different cameras and a mixture of HD and SD footage.

A lot of my personal footage was shot in 24p Standard and 24P Advanced. I think I've figured out how to get those files to the point in order to edit them on a 23.98 time line, which is more of the feel I would like to create overall with the entire project.

What are the possibilities of coverting the 60i SD footage and the HD footage (still lacking the specs on that), into true 24P in order to edit on 23.98.

I'm still quite the novice, so be honest... am I completely getting into the Deep end on this one. I'm game for the work load if it makes it look better, but I don't want to overload myself w/ too many things at once.

Any thoughts or opinions appreciated.

If you are using FCP6, you can have multiple formats in the same timeline with no problem. I would add the HD footage first, then add the SD and it will do the rest for you

I do mixed timelines on occasion and always recommend you upconvert to HD, then edit. 60i to 24p is no problem. FCP or Compressor can do it for you but a plugin like Nattress works better.

When you are finished editing, you may end up down converting to SD, but will have a HD file for blu-ray should you need it in the near future. Also, titles look so much better down converted from HD than starting in SD (especially for the web).
