Project Greenlight [Ongoing Discussion]

I am really pissed because I had my cable downgraded to basic, which means I get the religious station, the fishing shows, and the Magic Bullet infomercial (the ones you make margueritas in their own glass with, not the ones that make your crap look like film). I am relying on the thread to keep me abreast of what's going on. So keep me posted all you Gulagar-watchers!

I enjoyed this weeks episode. I think the Gulager supporters were somewhat vidicated. Still the melodrama is crazy. I wish we could have a cross between film school and project greenlight on as a series. Leave out the drama and show people who make movies. Big ones little ones doesn't matter its entertaining. There is a new video game coming out called "the movies" that should function as a great storyboarding tool. Anyone else awaiting the release date?

I was pretty disappointed that they edited the show to take Gulager from royal misfit (don't want to get banned) to genius in one week. I wonder if they re-edited after all the net comments about how ridiculous they were being to Gulager.

FWIW< SUndance channel has a great show called "anatomy of a scene". Last time it was on a free weekend I saw about 4 episodes and loved it. They talk about scene from every perspective (set, DP, director, actor, makeup, lighting, music, foley, etc) , then show it thru once. But I can't add any more channels to my dish service or I will go broke. Anyone know if it is available on DVD ?

Well it appears that Gulager must have done something right. I would have enjoyed the show more if it had focused on the technical aspects of getting everything together for the film and production of it. Editing to create something that according to all who participated was overblown is not my idea of good tv. If the clips shown on this episode were any indication then Gulager did a hell of a job. I read a Wes Craven interview where he said the script given Gulager was impossible to shoot. He said John did a great job and should have more chances in the future.

Most of these folks probably thought Gulager had been doing a good job for a couple of weeks, they just don't show it on the show. It was far more important to show a Diva actress, and a pissed off effects guy.

I hope things work out for the guy. Just the fact that he is focusing on his assigned task to the exclusion of looking at other offers is heartening to me. There's no doubt that he loves what he does.

I laughed my ass off when he fell off the chair, even though I had seen it in the coming attractions.

Good for Gulager. you can tell that the producers and editors are trying to squeeze every last ounce of drama out of the show. i wouldn't be surprised if the - not inviting chris to the screening - was 'for the show'.

I would like to see his father cast in some more movies. he has a good look.

so first off, I have only seen one early episode. But, wanted to throw something out there anyway. In light of everyone saying editors and producers overdramatized the story I have the following to suggest:

Someone responsible for implementing a creative vision on such a large stage seems capable of exhibiting such a huge character arc and miraculous turn around. It can create a tremendous angst and fear of failure to be vulnerable in the way Gulager was, especially with Chris Moore refering to him as a wedding videographer (not to say he didn't deserve it at the time). Sometimes there is such a tug and pull going on inside of a talented creative person that they may behave in a terribly self destrutive way at one moment and do something miraculous later on. Sounds like a Hollywood set to me, craziness and all.

Now I am interested in seeing this Season.

have all Project Greenlight season gone by so fast?

This whole season consisted of like maybe 10 episodes. A pretty short season.

I'm suprised noone has mentioned what a ***** that actress (I think it's Krista or Kristen allen) is being. She seems like she doesn't really give a **** about the project. Showing up drunk, wrapping herself, costume changes that affected continuity etc. I'd be suprised if there are tons of people dying to work with her after all that.

No doubt. She's the Diva I referred to in my post. Sadly, I'm sure that is part of the Hollywood culture.

Speaking of B*tches, I'm glad that Mike pointed out to the Casting Director that he wasn't happy with Navi (I'm wondering why they haven't shown us much of her through out the shoot)...It was also gratifying to see them show that rather unflattering shot of her back end walking down the hallway when she was leaving...

oh man so right you are...I can't believe actors these days and how they take everything for granted pretty much. I was watching some thing on MTV on House of Wax...and the actors just about bitched about everything. It's like shut the hell up you are making like 5 million dollars! If you don't want to do it...I'll do it!

That's the part that killed me when they were whining earlier about having to sit around the set all day. I'm thinking: "You are getting paid to be there. Bring a book or something"

Edit: I also cringed a bit when they were showing Matt Damon clips, and afterward they commented that this was a good marketable film. Then someone made a crack about "Stolen Summer"

Ouch for Pete Jones.

Chris Moore has complained about the show's ratings but they bounced it off on Sunday into the Thursday slot after a couple of episodes? I think Pete is thrilled if he gets any publicity from PGL now. I have heard that the audience loved Navi at the Vegas screening. It looked like Gulager was cutting one of her big scenes in this weeks show. Gulager complained that the real problem was egos. He said if someone didnt' know what was going on they would throw a fit about being left out of the loop. The DP had trouble visualizing what John was going for but admitted that it came out good. Overall a lot of the people in the project had egos out of control. How about Joel directing and Gulager later telling the actor to forget using the line Joel wanted? From what I have read the movie is not a great film but a good horror movie that is both scary and funny and very over the top.
I read an interview where they said they realized after finishing that they didnt' have an origin for the creatures and are holding up the release until they get a chance to shoot something on how these creatures came to be. So even with script supervisors experienced producers, Dps, ADs and other Hollywood types they neglected the obvious. I wonder if they will find a way to blame that on John?

Yea, I noticed that on the House of Wax doc, one of the actors was yelling for one of the cameramen to get the camera out of his face. I think they're too stupid to understand millions of people watch and automatically are turned off by their attitudes.

Looks like it might be a happy ending. They were really stretching for "controversial material" for the teasers on this one.

Gulager is getting mad praise by the show now. Where are all the nay sayers?
Before they wanted to sell the TV show. Now they want to sell the final product. They have lost any credibility they might have had.
