I have a few questions regarding progressive scan DVDs.
Are all progressive scan DVDs in 24p (or is 30p not resolved on settop players)? And should that entail that they be automatically 16x9? Aren't progressive capable screens normally 16x9?
DVD players have a switch to change from normal to progressive scan output. I assume that in normal mode, DVD players add pull-down to allow 24p content to be viewed in a 60i TV, and if the DVD 16x9 flag is set it will change the aspect ratio to match. But when the player is in progressive mode, it outputs pure 24p, right? In this case, what would happens to 30p footage? Is it recognized and treated as progressive content? And how would 30p footage look in normal DVD mode on a normal interlaced display? Shouldn't it look interlaced?
