Just wanted to touch base with everyone and let you know that I am done editing my film and now moving on to cleaning up the sound.
Last night I found myself working with about 4 or 5 vegas open at the same time, as I kept tweaking the different files (scenes) that make up the final project.
Vegas has been holding up beautifully. I am very surprised, for some reason I expected bugs, hanging, locking, and having to reboot on occasion. But that has not been the case
.
The software is lightning fast. No weird bugs to report so far. Now and then I get a "spike" in the sound that seems to come out of nowhere. But if I close the project and reopen it, it usually goes away. I had experienced the spikes before when editing a 3 min fast paced car race footage. I expected to have lots of them, but the slower paces editing of a film did not yield much spiking bugs, so I am happy.
Another bugs was using the CROP function with raylight, it did not work. It produced images that were distorted and did not behave in any way the way I had programmed the crop to behave. I found the simple and reliable solution to this was to simply, after cropping, add a slight "rotation", even as little as a HINT of rotation is all it takes to get rid of that problem. I hope this info helps some of you.
I have found myself working with a zillion tracks, events that had volume envelopes, pan envelopes and velocity envelopes all at the same time, while sometimes even being sped up in the "property" section, and vegas/raylight took it all in without batting an eye lash.
I am very pleased.
I yet have to render the film so when I do I'll let you know if I ran into any bugs at that final stage. But SO FAR SO GOOD.
If you are thinking about editing a longer project in vegas, you have my blessings
. Go for it, I'm doing it, so can you.
You can see a temporary trailer of the film I am editing here. Note that I am currently working on an improved, final version of the trailer. Watch this one if you want, but please be so kind as to not play film critic. Thank you for your consideration.
