Product Description Video

Hi guys! i have never shot a video like the one that i was just asked to do so i am looking for some direction/ creative ideas.

I shoot mostly action, sports, high school games, short films. But my work has asked me to put together a "Product Description Video" to show at our trade shows. It's a big deal. I know that you do not know the product, and i feel that it would be too in depth for me to try and explain it, if you're interested go to CLEARBAGS.COM to see our line of products.

The video will be 2-4 minutes, it will be up on a 32" flat screen on the back wall of our tradeshow booth. the video will continue to loop. At this time there will be no need for audio.

I Have a DVX-100B, edit on an 24" iMac, and FCS2.

Let me know if any of you have any experience with anything like this, i know its vague and if i dont get anything in response i understand. Just a shot in the dark for maybe some direction.

Thanks guys!

Chris

Keep this in mind. Whenever you are going to showcase a product you need to keep your audience in mind. So ask yourself, who is your audience? Please don't say "Well, we are marketing the product to everybody.", because at that point you have already failed. Once you find out who your audience is, figure out how/where they use it, and what the product is good for. Once all these questions are answered all you have to do is videotape the product in those specific situations. Does that make sense? Good luck and post if you have more questions.

Yes, who is the 'trade show' audience - the general public? manufacturers who might be interested in your nifty packaging in bulk? retailers? Makes a big difference in terms of exactly what they'll be wanting (e.g. a manufacturer will be interested in having their logo put on the packaging) and how many ('How much for 10,000 of those every month for my factory?')

Your video (along with other signage and displays) needs to make that clear to the casual bored passerby, to give them a reason to stop.

A simple slideshow of product photos would be easy (and cheap), but you probably want more than that, e.g. actors using the products, the products shown in eye-catching settings etc. Some bizarre/funny product usages (e.g. by monsters/aliens/robots etc?) might be good to catch people's attention.

Some of these choices will cost a lot more than others, so budget is also an issue.

Broosky and Clang,

Thanks guys, i have some good direction and some good starting points now.

- know your audience
- product use?
- catch the eye of the passerbye

Ill keep you updated on any other questions that come up and ill post the video once its finished.

Thanks for the direction!
