Problems working with 720p60p "over 60" footage

I'm trying to get some 720p60p footage I shot in "over 60" mode to get slowed down to overcrank footage. I thought I could just make a 720p30p timeline and drop it in, but the footage looks the exact same as when I bring it into a 720p60p timeline. Why is this? And how can I get it to go slow?

When I select the clip and go to DVCPRO-HD Frame Rate converter, nothing happens. When I try to remove pulldown, it says I don't have a DVCPRO clip (WHAT??). The format window even says it is DVCPRO-HD; I imported the clip via Log & Transfer from my P2 card.

Also - I wanted to know if I could record 720p60p footage and play it back with the exact same look I would have gotten had I shot 720p30pn footage. The reason for this is because I am shooting some stuff that I want to be at 720p30p, except there will be various times I want to go to slow-motion; I want to be able to do this whenever, not pre-preparing to know when to shoot slo-mo (impossible), and also not wanting to shoot everything in 60p overcrank (I lose audio then, and I need the audio)...

So my solution idea is to shoot it all 720p60p "over 60", convert all the footage, with audio, to look like it was shot in 720p30pn; but then to be able to do slo-motion on any clip I want as if it were overcranked.

But, as mentioned, I am having some trouble figuring out how to do this...

Normally your workflow for shooting slowmotion with a HVX is to do this:

Recording Setup > 720/24pN
Scene Setup > Frame Rate > 60

that will give you 60 frames at a 24 frame play back.

If you want audio, run another camera or run a DAT and sync them up via slate.

Yeah, I know what the normal workflow is, but I don't have a DAT and I have no money and so I am going to work with what I have.

I know what I am trying to do is possible and is supposed to work, but I am trying to figure out how.

If you're in FCP, use the Cinema Tools application to "conform" the footage to a 29.97 frame rate. That should be instantaneous and give you what you want.

OK, so conforming the footage works, and on a 59.94 timeline, when the footage has been conformed to 29.97, it plays back in slow motion. However, I don't understand WHY - I'd think on a 60fps timeline, 30fps would play back twice as fast anyway?

How does FCP's 60fps timeline handle this? I just want to understand how it works. Is it playing every frame twice? Or what?
