hey guys, i just got an imac for xmas and am trying to learn some stuff wtih final cut. when using my dvx and filming in stretch mode, where do i go to change the settings to 16:9? everything just goes 4:3 and stretches my video. do i do this when i open a project? when i capture? can i change it after i capture?

also if i shoot in 24p, do i need to put in settings in FCP to let the program know its 24p?

and i just captured some stuff and cant hear the audio when playing it in the timeline or the viewer. the volume is up and after i export it to quicktime the audio is there, i just cant hear it in FCP. i have the audio selected on the left part of the timeline so it should be playing.

thanks for your help and sorry about asking so many simple questions

I know you WANT to jump in and start editing... but honestly -- read the manual and do the tutorials.

Then ask the questions.

Or I'll call you and give you my standard consulting fee and walk you thru it.

ok

ok

i have edited, ive done a music video, a wedding, about 10 shorts and 2 30 minute sitcom type shows. the thing is i just got my own mac and everything looks the exact same, thats why i dont know why i am getting this audio problem. My teacher has shown me where the 16:9 and 24p settings are, but since i didnt need to use them at the time i forgot where they were, and now i cant find them.

If you look at your project settings that is always a good place to start. Also I think the captm is right its the first chapter of the book. Or if you do a search on here I am sure you will find something that deals with this problem.

View - External Video - ALL FRAMES... but of course it all depends on what your set up is. Got an external monitor? Got an external audio source? Want audio to follow video? Want audio NOT to follow video?

Good luck,

I suggest the Peachpit Press FCP 5 book- great info in there to get you started. Also my DVD shows you specific stuff for FCP and the DVX. It's pretty simple once you get the hang of the Easy Setups for 24p but unfortunately it doesn't teach itself.
