Problems with my shotgun microphone?

We use a shotgun microphone which we use on a boom and which we plug the camera line with an XLR cable. Every so often I get audio drop out or simply no sound. By fiddling around with the XLR to microphone connection the audio returns. What's odd about this situation is that the XRL cable is top of the line and the microphone is new and appears to have no loose piece. Is this problem common? What could be the cause? Thank you for any advice. (I tried other cables but that did not solve the problem).

Check all connectors (cables and devices, camera, recorder, cable, microphone, etc.) for looseness, a broken line and oxidation. At some solder joints a very small hair line crack can occur that breaks the signal. If so it needs to be resoldered.
