The HD-P2 XLR inputs are mic level only. So the XLR line out of the SD would overdrive that input. Switch the top panel (LINE/MIC) switch to LINE and use the RCA jack inputs. Obviously an XLR to RCA cable would be needed. The SD's tape-out should work as well.
The PAD only applies to signals coming in the XLR inputs and 20dB of attenuation ain't enough for a properly set-up line>mic level interface.
