Problems with COLOR

I have recently upgraded my edit suite - to FCS 2 on a 3.2Ghz Mac Pro (10G RAm, 4 TB drives).

I am working my way through the studio - and having completed the manuals for FCP I am now onto COLOR. However Color seems to be a 'buggy' and I wondered if anyone else had experience these problems.

In the secondaries room, my vectorsopes/histograms/sliders will suddenly go unresponsive. When this happens I clikc onto the primary tab and see that I have actually affected the image - however I will be working blind in the secondaries tab. Then yesterday the scopes and sliders went down in all the rooms. Now I am new to the software but am going through the detailed manuals (got the Michael Wohl book) and I am 99% convionved it's not me - and not a button I need to press (yes I have clicked the 'enable' button in the secondary tab and yes the grade enable from the top menu is also selected.

The strangest thing is when I called APPLE TechSupport they said that Color is almost flawless, they hardly take a single call about it - and that it wasn't the programme; it was my workflow. Forget the manual telling me to open the lesson directly into color; always go to FCP first then render then send to Color. SO while he was on the phone I got a new piece of footage (from the apple website) and opened it how he said. It was fine for 3-4 minutes, then once I had done a little primary corection and then created two secondaries (a vignette and a key) it sudenly froze again. The Apple guy on the phone said "well yes it's still a workflow issue, you went and did that and that....." He said that when I understood the programme more it would nmake sense.

PLEASE!!!! Are we saying that this professionally grading suite is so fragile that it can only be handled in a certain way!!! What is really going on? Should I reinstall or is it me????

Thanks!!!!

Michael Wohl's APTS Color book mentions this. It says that the scopes occasionally may become unresponsive and, in that event, one should activate a different clip than the one you are correcting, then return to the clip you are correcting and the scopes (and changes to the image as you correct) should again be responsive to the changes you make.

Hope that helps,
Kevin
