Problems with changing colors between frames.

So, I thought I finished a project in Final Cut Express, only to discover that FCE can't render worth crap (if you want to try and help with that, feel free to check out: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?286086-Desperately-need-help-in-Final-Cut-Express. Now I'm trying to recreate the project in FCPX and thus far it's being a huge pain in my arse.

I'm using the colorize effect and keyframing to change the color of the video as it goes on. I set one keyframe where I want the initial color to start and then another where I want it to end. I skip ahead one frame and keyframe the next color. The result makes little sense. What I end up getting for the first frame of the next color is a mix of the two even though I clearly set a beginning and end point for the first.

I decided to see if separating the different colored parts with the blade tool would yield different results. It did. The one color goes directly to the next with no intermediate color. The problem is, I need this to happen in the video a lot. And having to make a cut after each color instead of a cut after each set of colors (so I can easily repeat it) would be tremendously more tedious. Any suggestions?

This is where not having an actual RGB additive color wheel hurts FCP X. When you keyframe colors, going from one to the other, they follow the spectrum, which is scientifically laid out on a proper color wheel. Look at the Vector Scope. Pick a color, pick a second color. Follow clockwise from the first to the second. That's how the keyframe is moving. Anything in between has to be passed through to get from point A to point B. I hope that makes sense.

So yes, blade, then a dissolve transition is the way to do it. Cmd-B to blade, Cmd-T to add a dissolve transition, Cntrl-D to set the duration of the dissolve.

Hope this helps.
