Problems when recording on phantom power

I usually use battery power when I record with my NTG 2 and Tascam DR-100 MKII but I recently decided to try phantom power on a shoot and I had some issues. I kept hearing intermittent interference (crackling sound) and the audio seemed to drop out and the meters bottomed out. I switched back to battery power and had no further problems.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of the drop out on the files but it still concerns me. Any thoughts?

Crackling w/PP engaged is usually a cable issue. But A/C or battery normally doesn't make a difference. Try another power supply.

So your saying,
- The crackling sound is not on the recorded files? (PB in the recorder or an external PB device? (computer for instance)
- Crackling sound audible in headphone, only when running the recorder on external A/C power only?
