I'm new to working with 24p footage, so thanks in advance for your understanding and patience. I have been scouring the boards/manuals for days now and haven't come up with any answers yet for my problem.
My specs: Mac G5 dual processor, OS 10.4.11, 2.5 GB RAM; Final Cut 6.0.2.
Footage was shot with HVX200, 720p24 setting. P2 content now exists on internal hard drive; kept folder structure perfectly intact when transferring from P2 cards. When I view P2 clips in Log and Transfer, metadata in FCP shows: format as 720p24, shooting rate as 24, video bitrate as 100 Mbits, Source as DVCPRO HD 720p60, pulldown as 2:3, Vid rate as 59.94.
If I have "Remove Advanced Pulldown and Duplicate Frames" checked in my Import Preferences, and I import a clip, I get these problems: (1) clip shows up as 23.98 fps, but the audio is out of sync. The audio seems to be playing faster than the video--it's slightly sped up. (2) the circle icon to the left of the clip name is half-colored, which indicates that the clip didn't fully import; (3) the clip seems to be missing a few frames. I can tell this because when I re-import it but deselect "Remove Advanced Pulldown..." I get a clip that's 10 frames longer with in-sync audio, and 59.94 fps.
Thinking Raylight might help, I downloaded the demo version. But when I scan the clips, the Raylight scan window shows clips as 59.94 even though I have selected "Remove Pulldown". (It also shows them as 1280x720 which is odd). And when I view the Raylight clips in FCP browser, they are 59.94 fps. I can't seem to get them to come in at 23.97.
Since my film was shot in 720p24, I thought I would be editing in a 24p sequence, and that this was the best way to do things. But I can't get my footage to import properly that way. Any advice? Ideas? What would be the disadvantage to just editing the whole thing in a 59.94 sequence? I'm nervous about doing this because from all my reading it seems like if you shoot in 24p you should edit in 24p. Again, my understanding of 24p is somewhat rudimentary so thanks for any explanations...
My project is film-festival bound and will be output to tape in HD format.
Thanks so much for any help!!!
