Problems Upgrading to a G5 with FCE

I have FCE 2.0.2 (I think) I recently upgraded from a 800mhz G4 to a dual 2.3 G5. I was completely jazzed about how much faster it would be. I used Tiger's migration assistant to move everything over, but when I went to open FCE it said itcouldn't because the G5 doesn't have an AGP card. I thought maybe it was a glitch, so I reloaded the software, but got the same message. The G5 has an NVIDIA GeForce 6600 card.

So the question is, did my 2500 dollar computer investment make my NLE of choice obsolete, or is there a way around this (Short of buying FCP....which would be nice, but....)

Thanks

The newer PowerMacs use PCIe cards for video instead of AGP. Apple just released FCE 3.5 HD and the upgrade is $100. Good luck!

Well, the G5 sucked every last penny out of me...literally. So I guess I am screwed until I can upgrade. Damn. Thanks Morias

Looks like Final Cut Express 3.0.1 was the first version to support PCIe graphics. Not sure if the upgrade path from 2.0.2 to 3.0.1 is any cheaper than jumping to 3.5.

I have an academic version of FCP 4.5 HD and the full version of FCE 3. I plan to upgrade to FCE 3.5 within the next couple of weeks. Most of the stuff I do is pretty basic, but my biggest complaint about FCE was lack of keyframing, and 3.5 now supports it. I'm also planning to sell a kidney to get a full version of FCS 5.1 ;)

I think my main reason for wanting FCP as opposed to FCE is being able to output the audio in a multitrack format for my audio post guy. I gives him a lot more options.

I'd sell my arm, but it's my last one...

I definitely prefer FCP. I can't remember the audio support in FCE 2.x, but FCE 3.x supports up to 99 audio tracks. It even comes bundled with SoundTrack and LiveType. The upgrade pricing doesn't mention anything about versions, so I'm assuming you could upgrade from 2.x. So maybe you just need to sell a couple pints of blood to raise the upgrade cost instead of your arm to at least get something going. I just bought a MacBookPro, so I'm definitely feeling your pain.

Hope everything works out.
