Problems exporting audio back to DVX100A...

This is my virgin post... or now non-virgin post, depending on semantics...

I have a brand new DVX100A and have shot a couple shorts on it so far, edited them on my laptop, and exported them back to the camera for a tape copy with no problem.

However, now everytime I export back to the camera of have erratic drops in audio - meaning for short clicks a second or two at a time, I completely lose sound.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100, and am using the firewire cable.

Interestingly, the "bars and tone" that I open with always sounds fine on it own. When I tried to add the "tone" as a movie track, however, it also dropped out.

Alas, this isn't track dependent. Additionally, I tried exporting with both Premiere Pro and Windows Movie Maker... same problem with both.

I haven't yet checked to see if the problem would happen with another camera, but I have isolated it to being either the camera, or my computer (but not the software).

Any thoughts here?

Are the "tones" of the same 48 kHz/16 bit quality WAV files as the DV audio? Mixing different file types (MP3) and sample rates/bit depths give always broblems.

A couple of things to look at -- Have you tried burning your movie to DVD to see if you have the same problem? Or, have you looked carefully at the audio tracks to see if these aren't drop outs from the original recording? (yes, these may sound simple and kind of "duh", but it never hurts to look at the basics when having a problem...) Also, what kind of tapes are you using? Have you checked to make sure you're not dropping frames? I have found many problems with dropped frames in both directions when using lesser quality tapes (now I only use Panasonic MQ tapes....no more dropped frames...) (I have a really good source for them too, if anyone is interested...) ;-)

Actually, I just discovered that the tones also get screwed up. This seems to get worse with time - as in it gets worse the longer I'm using Premiere.
I'm pretty sure its my soundcard, but my camera has another quirk so I wanted to make sure that wasn't it...

Otherwise, I can hear the drop outs even when I'm not recording and just listening to whats going into the camera.
And if I use the other inputs, like the AVs, it sounds fine.

Thanks for the help and time figuring this out... now, I must post about my OTHER problem...
