problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

Hi,
I am having a problem burning DVDs from Adobe premiere 1.5 (which is definitely not the way to burn DVDs, but that's all I have right). The problem is when I set the the snap markers to create chapter markers, they get pushed out of place once burned. Another problem I am having is that the footage is not smooth, but rather stuttery. The last problem is that the footage always burns much brighter and the color seems to lose saturation once it is burned. I've burned it on both 4mB VBR and 7mBCBR formats. I filmed in the 24 advance mode. Could anyone help me out here?

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

What preset are you using and did you check chapter points at timeline marker? I've never had a problem burning DVD right out of Premiere. For encoding I always used NTSC Progressive high quality 7mb CBR 1 pass.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

The markers are in the correct spots. I tried burning 4X3: 4Mb VBR and 7Mb CBR. I put a check mark in the chapter markers box, and I selected "burn Work area". I tried burning 7 Mb VBR with the surround 5.1 option, and still the snap markers on the time line do not burn onto DVD on the correct spots.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

Double click the marker and put a number in the space where it says chapter....that should work

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

How far off are they? The chapters in a DVD need to be GOP-aligned, which *I think* means the chapters will snap to the nearest 1/2 second boundry, regardless of where the markers are.

Are your markers moving less than 0.5 seconds? Or is it more?

The last problem is that the footage always burns much brighter
Is this looking at the MPEG on your PC, or playing back the DVD on a TV? If you didn't use an external video monitor while editing, and relied on your computer monitor to judge, you might be surpised at how bright your footage is when you see it on TV.

Is this what's happening in your case?

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

I just got a copy of Encore. Finally the chapters are synced correctly; however, the footage still looks copy or stuttery. what can this problem be. From Premiiere the project settings are: video: 23.976 FPS, 720 X 480 (0.9)
Audio: 48000 Hz - 16 bit- Stereo

The encore dvd settings are:
video: 29.97 fps, 720 X 480
Audio: 48000 Hz - 16 bit- Stereo

COuld the transcoding from 23.976 to 29.76 be causing this stuttering, If so does anyone know how to sucessfully transfer 23.976 fps to Encore for a smooth playback?

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

I assume you are exporting from Premiere as an MPEG2-DVD file? (.m2v and .wav?) That's the only way to get 24p in Encore.

Assuming that, what bitrate settings are you using? And your GOP settings? (GOP settings should be 3/12).

Once you bring that .m2v file into Encore, the project window will show it as 29.97, and it's (halfway) correct. The 24p MPEG really has only 24 pictures each second, but it also has pulldown flags applied to some frames. A DVD player connected to an NTSC television can read those flags and generate the necessary pulldown fields to show your movie on TV. So technically, the file is *both* 24p and 29.97.

Hollywood does it this way as well.

So, don't worry if the Encore project window says "29.97." It'll do that.

IF, however, Encore is actaully re-encoding your MPEG file, something is wrong. Please let us know what all of your settings are.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

I figured out the problem. I realized that the whole timeline needed to be rendered inorder to be export to dvd or Encore for a smooth burn. I only assumed exporting the timeline to video would render the video automatically, but I was wrong. After I fiigured out the problem, I was glad to discover that I had create a flawless DVD. Thanks for your help guy. peace.

okay, now I'm pissed!! ;D

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

I was wrong. I though I had it figured out, but I still get somewhat of a stutter or storbe effect. This is seen especially when the object in the footage moves quickly. I rendered the file from premiere, sent it out to ENcore, and burned it in two different modes:
NTSC DV 4X3 high quality 7Mb VBR 2 pass
NTSC Progressive 4X3 high quality 7Mb VBR 2 pass

I filmed in 24 advanced mode, did some editing (cut, paste, fade in/out, compressor). I also createed a main menu and a chapter selct menu, however, I still see a slight flicker in the footage as if it was filmed with a shutter slower than 24. please help me.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

Okay, remember, this is just a guess since I think we'd actually need to look at your footage to tell for sure.

Sometimes PPro gets the 24p pulldown removal wrong. This can happen when you digitize your footage as one long clip, instead of checking the "Detect Scenes" button. In my case, it happened because my heads got dirty and the dreaded Red X was flashing on the LCD during the shoot. Because of the errors in the recorded data, PPRo seems to get confused about the actual start of scenes, and started the pulldown removal based on the previous scene.

The resulting 24p footage includes frames that are just wrong -- the wrong two fields have been put together. Playback seems to stutter and jerk, and has interlacing artifacts.

As I've said, this is just a guess. If it is the same problem, you would see it not just on a DVD but in Premiere previews. Do you see it in Premiere as well? If you go through scenes with rapid motion frame-by-frame, do you see interlacing artifacts on some frames?

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

NOpe, no interlacing artifacts are seen at all. I have a feeling it might be the camera I am using to digitize. Currently I am using a canon ZR85, because Rush from EVS told me that I should never use the DVX for digitizing, othwise I would risk wearing out the heads. WHen I playback from the premiere timeline I get the stutter, but I only assume that is so because the footage is not completely rendered, and I'm running a #.2 GHZ processor with only 512 DDR ram. Coulsd the problem Also be the format I am using to export a movie file from premiere to encore dvd? The current format that I am using is: MPEG2 DVD with an encoding preset of NTSC DV 4X3 HIGH quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass Surcode for Dolby Digital 5.1

THe transcoding I am using in ENCORE DVD are:
NTSC Progressive 4X3 HIgh Quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass
NTSC DV 4X3 HIgh Quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass

COuld I be using the wrong Presets? I am using the 24 fps timecode option on premiere with a 24p pull-up method of interlaced frame (2:3:3:2). please help me.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

Just to correct a mistake I made above....i am working with a "3.2 ghz processor".

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

You shouldn't have to transcode in Encore. In the Encore project window there's a column listed "Transcode Status." This should read "Don't Transcode" for your asset. If it doesn't read "Don't Transcode," right click on the asset and choose Transcode Settings->Don't Trasncode.

If "Don't Transcode" is not available, something is wrong with the export from Premeire.

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

yeah, the the "don't transcode" option is unavailable. How could I export from premiere correctly so ENcore doesn't automatically transcode the file?

Re: problems burnin DVDs from Adobe Premiere 1.5

File->Export->Adobe Media Encoder
MPEG2-DVD
23.976 progressive
2 pass vbr
Rate (your choice, but probably between 4 - 7 max)
GOP settings 3/12

Should give you a .m2v and a .wav file.

Exporting iMOVIE clip into Premiere

Exporting iMOVIE clip into Premiere

Does anyone know if this is possible? I tried to export an iMOVIE clip to quicktime dv format, so I can upload it to my PC in Premiere. Does anyone know if this is possible, or how it can be done? please write back.
