problem with video colors

hey everyone,

did this afternoon shoot, same light and same setting for the camera but gave me two different results.

I need to correct this footage in premiere, any idea on how to do this?

Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,
Pic on the left seems like correct exposure (hard to tell, very small compressed pics) and the one on the right looks over exposed and washed out (look at the black curtain, sensei's gi, skin tones). I don't know premiere, but I can tell in general terms that you need to bring down the gamma / midtones on the right picture and make it fit the on the left. Also the gi in the right pic acquired a magenta tint. That needs to be corrected with a cc color wheel back to the deep blue gi in the left pic. The same corrections will probably remove the red grain in the black curtains on the right pic as well. Good luck.

thanks for the help

thanks for the help

Rush, thank you for your help on this problem.

I use RGB color corrector in premiere and reduce the gamma on the red and green but mostly the red and the image is starting to look a lot better. at least the curtains are black now and the gi is the right blue. only his facial features seems to need some tweaking on now.

i need to order a decent monitor to preview the colors as my viewsonic vx922 isn't as sharp to do the job properly. i was thinking of ordering the apple 23 inch, i know a panasonic 17inch broascast monitor would be the ideal solution but small budget in all, i can't afford it. I was wondering what do you use to monitor the quality.

Thanks
Paul

I have 2 calibrated 22" LCDs for editing, and a 42" HDTV preview monitor. You'll find that calibrating what you got can be better than buying more stuff in the short term. Good job with the CC :)

PP2 has a feature that will copy a clip's properties, and allow you to paste them onto another clip. I think what you need to look for is "scene match".

match

match

thanks capt quirk,

i tried with the color match but to no avail. I will reshoot the segment but this was a valuable lesson to not trust that little lcd on the camera, i couldn't see the stupid red build up in the shot.

and i also figure out why it happen, wasn't the camera fault, someone remove the window covers during a break to open the window to check outside and didn't put them back. the sunlight went thru the curtains even it was a cloudy day outside. that light bounced off the floor and into the camera shot.

Now i know,,, just nail those covers for any video shoot

thanks All

Paul

Yep, Spill can Kill any shot. It's good that you took the time to figure out why it happened, rather than chalk it up to 'myterious occurence'
