Problem with Vegas Capture

When im previewing my footage in Vegas Capture, the footage is exactly what is on the tape. However, when I go and hit the "capture now" button to start capturing, the footage turns much darker and the colors are off (off as in different than the preview was, i would say there more of a orange tint). Is there an option i have turned on? what could be causing this?

EDIT: I do see there are some questions that are sort of similar (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=79178), but im positive this isnt a problem with my monitor settings, and im not losing color quality when the clips go into vegas, im gaining heavy black levels and an orange tint right when i hit the capture button. If this was a problem with my screen settings, wouldn't this color change happen from the get-go, never giving me the camera footage quality in the first place?

i don't mean to nit pick but could you explain "the footage is EXACTLY what is on tape" ?
are you comparing Vegas capture ( on computer lcd or CRT ) against a production monitor or the camera LCD ?

im compairing vegas capture to my dvx lcd, my sony handicam lcd, and my CRT computer monitor. Everything is the same until the moment i hit the "capture" button.

I've had that issue with vegas since day one. One of the problems lies with any hardware acceleration (chances are you have an Nvdia or ATI chipset on your video card) settings. I cant watch many DV movies with windows media player for the same reason. It darkens then hell out of my footage. Other codecs dont do that, and I spare a lot of headaches by outputting Quicktime Animation codec.

That is a display anomoly from windows only. It's not your tape, camera, and if you open your footage in Vegas, you will see that it is exactly like it looked before you hit record.

There is some weird issues with the DV codec and your video card. When I go under the display options (in the tools list in windows media player) and disable hardware acceleration and/or pick "best quality", that error goes away. However, I lose the correct pixle aspect ratio in the player.

It's just a weird glitch with windows. No one I know seems to know how to fix it, though I have researched it and it's pretty common. The most offered solution for playback was to increase the brightness to 6-8 and the contrast by 2 in the media player.

Traitor! Had I known this would be the response, I would have kept my fingers from the keyboard . . .

Actually, I've never really had that many problems with it in my workflow. Once the video is captured, it never leaves Vegas in DV format.

Oh, and when you are back on your Mac, I'll still have more buttons on my mouse.
