Problem with telecined footage.

Alright, let me preface this by saying I did search the forum before posting.

To get to the question. I just got my footage back from the lab last week. It's 16mm shot at 24FPS, telecined at 29.97 on a MiniDV tape.

So I go to remove the pulldown using Cinema Tools, the original way. Which ended in disaster. Have interlacing artifacts everywhere. So then I went and took the round about way by going through the conform function in Cinema Tools to conform to 23.98 (I think it's point 98 anyways). And that looked better, but still killed any motion blur.

So really I have no idea how to get that footage back to the original 24. I've tried almost everything in my tool box including JES.

Anything I am over looking?

You need to log and capture your footage, and make sure that the first frame you capture is the A frame. They typically occur on the 00 frame. You need to make sure your footage all starts on the A frame to ensure proper pulldown removal.

Did you get keycode information burned into the footage when you had the film telecined? How about ALE or FLEX files? They can be converted into BATCH CAPTURE lists for FCP that all start on the A Frame. But you still need to verify that before you reverse telecine...shot by shot (typically the assistants job).
