Problem with Merge Clips function

For the last week I've been running a trial copy of CS5.5 for Mac.
I'm currently syncing audio with my GH1 footage and have run into a problem. Once synced I merge the clips and they appear in the project viewer as a new file. This file is fine and can be edited as normal.
Problem is once the project file or program is closed and then reopened the audio track is suddenly blank. On the timeline the audio track is present, but the waveform is blank. The audio does not play in the viewer either.

Any ideas as to where the problem may lie?

Sounds like your sequence has only stereo audio tracks. Make sure that you set up your sequence with mono tracks instead of stereo. Merged clips only carry mono audio and can only be edited into a sequence with mono tracks.

See if that works.

Problem still occurs no matter what sort of audio tracks the project has.
The merged clip can be brought into a sequence and it'll work fine, until the project is reopened. When it's reopened the waveform appears for a second and then disappears.
Seems to be a legitimate bug.
I've been forced to put the synced clips in a nested sequence. Far from ideal.
