Problem with Letus34 Flip Enhanced

First I was so happy - I got my Nikkor 50mm 1.4 today and I finally wanted to start shooting with my adapter.
But then - hey! - the adapter's lens came off. It just slides off. With no resistance.
It's the lens that sits on the camera side of the adapter, held by the silver metal ring.

I called the Adapterplace and they told me to score the metal ring to make it stick better.
That didn't work at all.
I'm angry now.
I don't want to send it back.
Any ideas?

One thought that came to my mind was to use a hose clamp and really tighten it up on the front... maybe even a rubber one if they have it. This way you can tighten it up, which it should stay, and adjust later for other cameras... Someone chime in if this sounds like this could damage it.

Ohhhh...it's because you have the Letus 34, not the 35. It's milimeter too small!!!!! HAHA - sorry.

I just got a letus. I know the problem of which you speak. As a matter of fact, get this....NOTHING is holding the letus to that metal ring except for a little friction. Yes, that means the whole thing can slide right off - lens and all.

Mine is very tight so i can't complain. But I do want a solution.

1. You will find there are two screws just forward of the metal ring. They hold the cylinder onto the plastic body. I would unscrew these and see if I could get to the backside of that ring. If you can, just crazy glue the ring in place and be down with it.

2. If you can't, you will need a less permanent adhesive. Try 3M 4200 fast cure in black. Put two TEENY dabs 180 degrees apart fromeach other, making sure you wipe the excess. Don't twist the ring. You don't want to spread this stuff, you just want it in two different spots so you can eventually remove the ring for cleaning.

If you overapply the 4200 - congrats! It's now PERMANENTLY mounted. Which is a ***** if you ever need to clean it.

By 4200 at any good marine store like West Marine and mosthardware stores.

Scoring the inside will only increase the gap because you will start removing materials.

Also order a lens mount and secure the front of that lens to reduce the force on that ring.

Yes, the way the Letus is built is chicken ****. But it does work well, and it is cheap.

Here's pics of my rig. I was trying to show the lens mount under the letus but it didn't show up so well.

I'll probably send it back to Letus. That's what Berry suggested...
It's way to loose.

What are the rails you're using: Cavision?
Which model?

The baseplate is cavision, the follow focus is cavision, the rails are redrock, the matte box is cavision, the lens support is redrock, the monitor is a marshall.

Well hopefully he'll get it sorted out. The letus has issues, to be certain.

Cons:
1. The ring problem you mentioned.
2. Backfocus was not setup correctly from the factory. It is very easy to do when you are told how, but it will puzzle you at first. This is critical.
3. Lack of printed manuals or instructions of any kind.
4. Quyen is quick to respond to e-mails but often writes cryptic one line responses.
5. Loses alot of light.

Pros:
1. It flips - need I say more:
2. Produces beautiful, sharp images as good as any adapter out there.
3. Costs $700

To me the lighting issue is moot. Need more light? Go to the garage and get an HMI. I use my cam for narrative work and we need to light anyways. Now we light....more ;-)

Funny why people still pay $700 and there are still issues like this.
It not fair to sell something that cost $700 and still feels like some kind of homemade project.

I think Letus should address this problem before they start selling for thier adapters. Yes even it is cheaper then the others out there. It still doesn't warrant to sell a defective product.

I rather pay a bit more to know that I'm getting a workable product.

Ugh, I don't think he spent $700 in order to patch it up with Gorilla Glue.

But some people just like to have DIY looking stuff... and fix it will more DIY solutions...And still pay $700...

You guys know the part you are missing? After I got mine squared away (2 days), it provides stunning, clear, and gorgeous images - right side up.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Nothing else even comes close.

No, you paid about $4500 for a product that looks tits and delivers the exact same net result to the viewer as the Letus.

I did not pay $700 for DIY looking product only to have to glue it later
The MovieTube JR is like $4500 though. Six times more expensive than the Letus35 Flip Enhanced.

I would certainly expect you'd get some extra value for spending 6 times as much. And that's Adam's point -- nothing else comes close. If you have to spend 6 times as much, that's not exactly close.

Nobody, anywhere, is likely to argue that a Letus 35 FE is better than a MovieTube Jr. But at 1/6th the price, it doesn't have to be. Unless your standards dictate that nothing less than the MTJr is acceptable, in which case you accept that you'll spend 6x as much.

ACtualy...... the letus does have a "cleaner" picture, for 1/8th the price.

the movietube is a static adapter and like the go35 and "G35" it displays static grain when you stop down the lenses. I was disappointed by it. its reasonably sharp and its definitly a quality build, but as Tim Naylor says, the movie tube is like shooting 35 through 2 promists. it has a diffused quality to it, that you cant remove.
