Problem with Footage, Not sure what to call it

I have just finished my short film, the only thing I don't like about it is a "light artifact" in the background of a certain shot.

I don't know what to call it, I don't think it's rolling shutter, I shot with a hacked GH2 and the best way to describe it is as a vertical light artifact, its thin but present in the background, it doesn't ruin the shots but now that I see it, it can be a distraction.

Are there any fixes?

Lens flare?

Without seeing, it will be hard to suggest fixes, but flailing blindly I would say "rotoscoping".

Was the shot in question films with a locked camera, i.e. no camera movement or zooming etc whatsoever? Then you may be able to composite something on top to cover it.

But if the camera moved, then as Nothing says, you're probably looking at rotoscoping, i.e. the same thing but adjusted potentially for every single frame, which frankly is no fun for anyone.

Before you waste a pile of time and perhaps money, does anyone else who's seen the film notice the artefact? You may be obsessing over something 99.9% of your audience won't even notice, let alone care about.

Painting in some frame / pixel restoration would be more suitable than rotoscoping. Does not sound as if he needs a mask or matte.

Lens flare could be the issue. I am the only who has seen it and that may be true but if there is a way to fix it then I don't mind the extra effort. It is a locked camera so perhaps I can do the painting or composite. Just have to learn how to do that now!

I just discovered something new tonight. I created a DVD to test it on my TV and I noticed the same lines throughout multiple shots including a screenshot of a website, which means its not the lens or the camera. Perhaps compression?

Seriously, why don't you post a screen grab??
