Problem with external microphone (i think)

Hey guys,

Just got my external microphone today, a Sony ECM-674 - and im having trouble with it picking up any sound. It is probably the way I inserted it or something - I put it INPUT1 and flicked the switch under the LCD named INPUT1 to ON, but it doesnt detect any sound. Its probably very simple, but this small challenge plus my lack of sleep is killing me. What else can I try to do?

All you have to do is to set CH1 Select to Input1.
INPUT1 to ON activates the +48V phantom power. If your ext mic is self-powered then you should set it to OFF.
Don't forget to check the Input1/Input2 line/mic switch in front of the camera.
