Hey. I have had my dvx 100 a for about a week. I know about the clunking sound, and i know what it sounds like. However, my camera sounds like it has a small screw or something loose inside. I just noticed it and I want to find out what is wrong. I have to ask a dumb question to ease my worries first. On the bottom of the camera, where the mounting holes are, are they both supposed to be covered at the end, or is the one closest to the lens covered and the one closest to the viewfinder open?

Re: problem with dvx.

Weird... I replied to that a few hours ago but my answer apparently wasn't logged... ???

Anyway, Kevin, welcome to the club ! :)

Regarding your question, none of those sockets is supposed to be covered by anything. The one closest to the lens is the alignment socket. The corresponding alignment prong on the quick release tripod plate goes in there.

Re: problem with dvx.

Kevin, many of these cameras also have eye pieces that flop around. Sounds like Panasonic did not think it was important to actually secure the parts inside the viewfinder. Mine certainly has this problem.

Re: problem with dvx.

hey..thanks for replying....it is hard to explain what i mean about the mounting holes....

1) the hole closest to the lens is covered at the end. By this I mean you put the alignment screw in there, but at the end of it is a metal thing, i guess to prevent you from pushing something in too far.

2)the hole closest to the viewfinder does not have anything covering up the whole at the end. its like i can see into the camera (not really because it is dark, but i cant see the end of the mounting hole). I am just wondering if this is normal.

the reason I am asking about this is because I built the 14$ stabilizer, but I had a little trouble screwing it onto the camera. I eventually got it mounted, but the next day I heard something small shaking inside the camera. So my first guess is that maybe i knocked the end out while mounting the camera. I just couldnt remember if that hole was there in the first place.

sorry if i am confusing, i am just trying to find out what is wrong.

Re: problem with dvx.

Oops! It definitely sounds like you may have done what you feared.

Sounds like you screwed the camera onto your stabilizer too far and the screw broke through and into the body.

I'm assuming what you hear rattling around is that piece that broke through.

I would definitely suggest you get it looked at by a service facility ASAP.

Re: problem with dvx.

OK, I get it now. Have to agree with Terry ==> get your cam serviced right away !

Re: problem with dvx.

thanks everyone for replying! although sad that I have messed up my camera in only a weeks time, at least I know what the problem is. Now the question is what to do. I just bought it a week ago from EVs. Do I send it back to panasonic, or what else is there to do? once again, thanks for the help!

Re: problem with dvx.

Rush, do you do service on the DVX's if I need repair? Thats good to know ;D

Re: problem with dvx.

No, sorry, not beyond simply running a cleaning cassette through it, which anyone can do. :P

Re: problem with dvx.
