Problem w/Sennheiser EW100 wireless lav

I have a one-month old wireless lav microphone kit from Sennheiser (SK100 transmitter, EK100 receiver).

This equipment worked perfectly before, but yesterday I encountered a strange problem : when transmitter and receiver are close (say, one yard), the radio signal is only 2 dots strong (out of 5 or 6), and when I move them further apart, the signal strength goes down to 1 dot and then the receiver completely loses the signal (that's about three yards away from the transmitter).

At the same time, even when there is a weak reception, no modulation comes out of the microphone.

Sensitivity and squelch are set at minimum levels, antennae are correctly positioned, batteries are alkaline and brand new (the "Low Batt" signal doesn't flash), and no part was ever dropped or otherwise damaged. Transmitter and receiver are set to the same frequency, too...

I phoned Sennheiser and they just told me to return the whole set to them, but before I do that, and given that (a) it worked fine before, and (b) this set is renowned for being very sturdy and reliable, I just thought I would ask you guys if anyone had a clue about what might be happening... Is the whole thing really broken, or is there any stupid little thing I have missed ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yeah, make sure to check your antennas. If everything seems to be correct, antennas, batteries, frequency i suggest you contact your dealer.
