problem w/ dv external monitoring!

ok, so i've had this problem before but can't remember how i fixed it last time. i have a 23.98 720p timeline with hvx footage on it. i have a regular mini-dv cam coming out of firewire and going to a standard tv for monitoring (yes, SD monitoring, so don't reply with "you have to have a hd monitor or you aren't seeing it in hd, duh). i just want to see the footage downrezed to sd on the tv, since the final product will be in sd. the problem i'm having is, i can see the frame at the playhead when i start, but it doesn't play on the tv. when i hit stop it refreshes the tv with the new frame. so basically, i can see still images but no moving video. so it seems like it isn't automatically adding the pulldown frames to properly display out of mini-dv. all of my settings look right, but i can't figure it out! surely somebody has figured out this issue and knows the quick fix (that doesn't involve nesting into another sequence). any help?

Doesn't work that way. You would need a Kona card or place the sequence into a DV-NTSC timeline and render it out.

For real? I feel like I have edited some 720p stuff (HD timeline), ran the dv to my crappy jvc deck and to the monitor and it worked.

is it the deck?

yeh, i've definitely done it before. somehow some setting got changed and i just can't figure out how to get it to work again.

I'm gonna have to second Noah on that one. Firewire doesn't do on the fly downconversion. If your timeline is HD then you're sending an HD signal out from your computer. Somewhere along the line a piece of hardware needs to do a downconvert for you. A Wal-Mart camcorder as a VTR won't do the job. You need BMD or AJA card, a VTR that can do HD in and SD out (so it has a built in card), or like Noah said, render it out on a SD timeline. I thinking previously you likely had SD footage and an SD timeline. That certainly will work fine as there is no conversion process involved. Good luck.

cheers.
