Problem using avi into premiere pro?

I'm using a downloaded movie video to edit. The problem is when I tried to drag it into the bin, The video is like stuck there while the audio is okay.

So I was thinking of converting the video format into something else to work with it. But is there any other way for premiere pro to recognize the abi format?

If this is a commercial movie, there may be copy protection.

It may also be in a codec that Premiere has problems with. AVI can be anything -- DV, DivX, XviD, etc. You can usually use GSpot to figure out what it is.

On the Mac, if you open an AVI in QT Pro and simply do a SAVE (nothing more) and make it self-contained it will be saved as a .mov file which should open without a problem in Premiere.
