Problem.... Squeezed Video

Hey guys. I have this small problem. I originally planned on releasing my movie on DVD. It seems the Long Island Film Festival only accepts submissions on VHS tape so here's my problem...
Since I always planned on putting my movie on DVD, I used the 16:9 preset and then switched, "MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO," to, "NO." So now I have 16:9 video, but squeezed by Vegas. Now, since I really want to enter the LI Film Festival and I have to enter my movie on VHS, how can I switch the video back to Unsqueezed, 4:3 video, cropped to 16:9 (instead of just squeezed to 16:9). The tricky part is that I vertically reframed a bunch of shots and I dont want to lose that. Plus I have a bunch of effects (masks, layered video, etc) and I dont want to lose that either. Is there a way I can keep it the way it is, just convert it to 4:3 cropped to 16:9?

Thanks!

Hmm

Hmm

Yeah that's true but the exhibition copy is VHS or MINI DV so I'm opting to go with MINI DV so that I can keep quality (no DVD compression). Thing is... I'll eventually have to go to tape anyways. But if worse comes to worse, I'll just dub a copy from a DVD and use VHS as my exhibition format..... but don't DVD players prevent you from copying DVDs to VHS? Copy protection and stuff.... or is that copy protection built into the discs themselves?
Thanks,

You should be able to render out as normal DV from your 16:9 project. Make sure the box in the render dialogue which says "Stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox)" is UNchecked.

David, just to make sure I understand....

So you're saying I can render an uncompressed AVI with the DV aspect ratio set to 4:3 and just make sure that box "Stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox)" is unchecked... then I can import that uncompressed DV file into a new timeline and then export to DV tape?

I've tried rendering out with that box unchecked but I was always rendering with the 16:9 aspect ratio output... hah... that's dumb of me... no wonder why that box seemed to not make a difference... ahh stupid mistakes....

Thanks!

You should be able to print the timeline directly to tape with that setting.

If you render an AVI, you can print it to tape through the capture program and not bring it back into the timeline at all.
