Problem in final cut

Hey, I'm having a problem in my nle,

The footage on my canvas looks really bad. For some the edges around the subject's body are extremly jagged. Rather then a normal smooth edge. Any of you guys know if I can toggle a setting or what I am doing wrong. A helpful remedy would be greatly appreciated.

The jags are horizontal, Almost like a horrible interlace. But I'm shooting in 24p...

Thanks in advance

Ah FCP's canvas is a mediocre proxy of your footage. Its not meant for quality control purposes. Its meant for just getting the cut done. Don't be concerned about the quality of your footage based upon what you see in your FCP windows or your computer monitor. You need to do a video out to a broadcast monitor or at the very least a seperate LCD (and use Apple Cinema Desktop or whatever the command is, Gun?). If the footage is having issue at that point, then perhaps you need to look at your sequence settings and/or the need to use a chroma blur filter (are the jagged parts in things that appear red?). Good luck.

cheers.

You can adjust the playback settings in the timeline window. Click on the "RT" for a pulldown menu with quality selections.

But if you want to view and playback at full quality, you'll need a machine that can hack it.

But Varicamlife's right--it's still not perfect.

I've stated that I'll give up -;)

But a calibrated broadcast monitor is what FCP is built for. Get it (and a videocard) and you'll never look back.
