Probably a really simple question, but I'm clueless...

When I captured my most recent footage, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it. While editing, still no problem. However, when I was looking at the finished product, I noticed something....what would be a film that would take up the entire screen only took up a small portion in the middle of the screen. Originally I thought that perhaps it was just supposed to be like that, but when I attempted to print to video, the product ended up looking the same.

I've edited a few different projects on here and never encountered anything like this. Could someone point me in the right direction as to how I could make my film fill up the screen as opposed to about 1/9 of it? Like I said in the title, I'm sure this is a really quick fix, but I've tried looking through all manuals and I can't seem to find anything in there, and I don't want to REALLY screw up my FCP system by messing around with the settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.

What format did you shoot? How did you capture? When you dropped it into the timeline, did you get the RED render bar and have to render?

The only thing I can think of is that you dropped DV footage onto an HD timeline...

I shot it in DV 16:9. I captured using the Easy Setup option for DV. And yes, I had to render.

It could very well be that I dropped that onto an HD timeline, as this was my first project I've filmed/edited in DV. Spot on, sir. Thanks.

Anyways, as this is my first DV project, what shall I do to correct this?

Create a new sequence. Open the sequence settings and hit the Load Pre-set button. Scan through the list for the DV NTSC 48Khz option. Select that and hit okay.

Have both your old sequence (the one with the footage being a small square in the middle) and this new sequence both open. Select all from the old timeline, copy, and then paste into the new timeline. You have some spot renders to do, but the majority should not require it, and it should now fill the frame properly. Good luck.

cheers.
