Probably a dumb question but...

I am thinking to buy Premiere Pro from Ebay (US) as exchange rate makes it attractive to me in the UK. Is the software exactly the same as in the UK, including registering it? Also does anyone know which older versions of premiere can be upgraded to Pro 2.0? And...ha ha last question honest, is there any major feature that would make someone to seriously need to look at latest edition of Premiere, I mean is it really necessary to burn to Blue Ray yet etc.

Premiere Pro will work regardless whether you are in Pal or NTSC land, so you would be fine to purchase a US version. this is because you specify the settings for each project before you begin, there are a variety of presets. PPRO 2 is the current version, although PPRO CS3 has just been announced and will probably be realeased around july/august. All versions have similar layouts and tools and there are some little differences that distinguish them, it is all about what you want to use it for. Whether you're just starting out or are looking for something more professional. Personally at the moment i'm a film/media student and I am really excited about the new adobe CS3 Production Studio and will probably wait untill then to make the plunge and buy my first software package. the academic prices definately help. But for what it sounds like either PPRO 1.5, 2.0 or CS3 would be fine and would make little difference. But i would definately look at waiting for CS3, especially considering it looks to be fairly reasonably priced, as well as of course being the latest version.

just my 2 cents

Thanks for your 2 cents. I just bought PPro 2.0 full version for just $330 plus overseas postage which compared to the UK is amazing, more than half price and I figured I can update later when the upgrade inevitably gets cheap.

I was wondering as a student do you know what you can do with Academic software. I am in an organisation which is educational and registered Charity but I want to use the software to make commercial product so what you said got me wondering wondering if I can use Educational versions later. Thanks again, James:dankk2:

glad to hear you purchased PPro 2.0, good choice, i'm sure you'll love it. sounds like a fairly good price you got it for as well. regarding academic software, I believe that with an academic license to the software you are only able to use for academic purposes and unable to use it for any commercial work or essentially any work that you make money from. Otherwise i believe you're violating the license. i'm not too sure about this, but i think that's the general conditions of it.
