pro wedding videographers?

I've been doing video production for a living since 1987. Please point out where I've done a disservice by expressing my opinion and offering suggestions based on my experience.

I'm talking Wedding Industry experience, not general video experience - you are only referring to a portion of the industry, the bottom half, hence "half truth" LOL.

And if I had listened to your advice while in college, I would most likely be near bankruptcy trying to pay off student loans working at Wawa.

And please note, I pointed out the Wedding Video Industry is VERY YOUNG - 1987 vs. 2006 are LIGHT YEARS APART. Hell 2002 and 2006 are light years apart w/ Wedding Videographers. And in 2006, there are 5-10K video companies that shoot 3 cam HD shoots with cranes, steadicams, etc that STILL ARE VERY STUDENT/RECENT GRAD friendly.

What advice? The advice to work for someone else only long enough to glean what you can and then move on to do weddings by yourself?!

Dude, you've got a bone to pick with anyone who is anti-wedding. So much so that you think I've posted against doing weddings. You also, wrongly, assume that I've not shot and edited any weddings. And, what's with implying that my experience isn't relevant?

Never said anything about your experience working with weddings, ONLY your perception of the wedding industry. And becoming independent and gleaning is not an easy one night stand - it takes a few years - you're setting him up for disappointment if he think's it's that easy to do your own weddings.

I am a wedding videographer, but still considered pretty new in this industry. Been doing it for almost a year.

When I first started out, I didn't have much video experience, neither did I have any wedding demos shot with my new DVX. But I had two couples from my church getting married. With their consent, I could videoshoot both their weddings for free & use their wedding footage as a demo for my future clients.

The first was an outdoor, garden wedding & I did my very best in shooting the entire event creatively. After this couple watched their full-length DVD I edited & burned for them, they were very appreciative & commented that the exposure of the footage was just right & the shots I chose (camera angles & composition) was very well planned.

Same for the second wedding couple I filmed. They were very pleased with their wedding DVD too.

You actually did make a comment about his experience when you said "I'm talking Wedding Industry experience, not general video experience - you are only referring to a portion of the industry, the bottom half"

You dismissed his video experience as being general and not wedding specific or pertaining to wedding.
