Pro Video Card for PC

I should upgrade my pc video card (ATI Radeon 9200, 128MB) to something more "pro".
I looked around and saw that different cards require different hardware configurations. I don't want to be limited or god-forbid have to change my configuration further more only because I changed my videocard :)
I would need something that can do real time effects and transitions.
Not really interested in in/outputs because all my work is firewired in and back to mini/dv.

I use: Windows XP - Home, Pentium IV 2.4GHz, 1GB DDR, Vegas 5 and have a separate firewire card.

Price range - maybe up to 300 USD (260 EUR).

Do you guys have any suggestions/links/reviews?

Thanks!!!

To be honest, unless your computer has PCI-Express (which I would guess it doesn't?) I don't think you'll necessarly see a huge upgrade in your performance, in that price range. The latest version of Magic Bullet will work in realtime with a 7800, but (someone correct me if I'm wrong) I think that cards in the 500 USD range and requires PCI Express. Another route would be a matrox RT card which would work in your computer, but card only OEM's ar over 500 USD. Save your money for your next system if you really want more real time performance.

I use a GeForce 6800 Ultra with very good performace, comes in two flavors AGP x or PCI express. It has held it's own in the performance end and review are good. I currently use it and have no complaints...
Been around for over a year and prices should be in your range at this stage of its life. Nvidia is a very good makers of video and has great driver support.

If the ULTRA version is too much bacon, try the regular 6800.

Thanks guys!
seejay I can see your point.

The following is my dillema:

I checked for Matrox cards and this is their current offer within my requirement (well, they cost more than I planned but anyway):

1. Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro Collection, 1,000 USD (approx), it includes Premiere Pro, Ecore DVD, Audition and After Effects and it's a PCI Card.

2. Matrox TR.X100 Xtreme Pro without Premiere BUT for Adobe Premiere Licence owners. 680 USD (approx)

3. Matrox RT-X10 Real-Time Video Editing PCI Card - Windows, 380 USD (approx).
One of the system requirements is Premiere!

This acctualy means that none of these will work with Vegas 5???
The 2nd or 3rd one I would maybe consider buying but I then need Premiere?
Is this correct or am I missing something?

Thanks!

Are you sure a graphics card will make any difference to Magic Bullet? As I understand Magic Bullet doesn't use DirectX, or OpenGL. It does all it's work on the CPU, and just uses the GFX to display the image. So it doesn't really matter what GFX card you have for MB, as it is just being used for image display. You want faster rendering for MB then get yourself some dual xeons or a faster processor!

Of course I might be behind times; Maybe they have a newer version that uses DirectX/OpenGL for fast previews? But still to do a full render would still require just the CPU, as DirectX/OpenGL implementations are slightly different from card to card.
