I'm sure there are are a bunch of DIY options but when facing a high paying client
you want quality and you want sturdy.

I'm looking at this one, anyone else have links to similar or better?

Just picked this up from b and h tonight and I'm telling you, it's not great, it's going back as soon as I can.
It's sturdy enough, only goes to waist high - but the build quality is sh*t. The mechanism that slides to allow the 3 legs to spread is god-awful. Cheap plastic and way too tight. Almost have to force it to get the stand open. Don't waste your time or money
Buying this. And I thought Roland was a good brand.

Really hoping for recommendations from you all. My google searches keep turning up even sketchier results.

How about a small folding table? Like a card table? You can probably get one at Home Depot, Costco or Ikea.

Here's what I do - I had to do teleprompting for some non-professional actors, in which in CU's, we replaced the other actor with a laptop, to keep the sightlines the same.

I took a nail-on plate and screwed it into a 1 foot by 1 foot piece of plywood (I went to Home Depot, got a 4 by 4 sheet, and had the guys there cut it into 4). Pop it into a gobo head and on a little kit stand, and you've got an adjustable laptop stand, a place to mount lights on the ground, an easy way to mount a light to a dolly, etc... Cheap, easy, and I already had all the parts.

Thanks for the replies.

I just want to give some props to B & H. This morning I stopped past the returns section and showed them the so-stiff-its-unusable tripod that came with the kit I showed in the first post. Within about 3 minutes the dude there had switched it out for a working one made by Roland and offered me the choice of keeping or returning. Of course I kept it, I need this. Nice one and thanks B & H
