Pro Export - Automatic Duck Questions

I have heard good and bad things.
I was wondering if there are any users that are using it to export FCP audio files to Pro Tools.

On the site, it says that it exports from FCP WITH handles. All PT users will agree that this is pretty exciting considering there is only one other solution for cracking OMF's with handles. (Digi Translator or DV Tool Kit which range from $1000+)

Has anyone forked over the $500 for this program and gave the export a shot? I'm curiouse to know if it is the answer to my delima of cracking OMF's.

:)

Digitranslator was about $420 street when I got it some time ago. It exports from FCP with full re-editing freedom as well (unlimited "handles"). It's ridiculously overpriced, but it works great although I still resent the fact that my $16,000 PTHD rig didn't include it (or, even more ridiculously, the $20 MP3 export option). I haven't tried Automatic Duck but it looks to be a very good product. From its description it seems to do better than DT, but the bi-directional bundle version is $800.

I've never worked with anyone using Automatic Duck so maybe I'm wrong, but I believe that it exports an enhanced OMF or AAF from FCP with more options that the standard OMF Export that FCP offers. You'll still need Digitranslator to open the file in Pro Tools, which they say in their demonstration video. It looks like a very interesting addition to FCP, but I don't think that it is the answer to your OMF dilemma.

Digi Translator is around $500, though you can often find it for less. It doesn't work with FCP, it works only in ProTools.

FCP makes fine OMF's, you can add as large a handle as you want. DigiTranslator is more picky. It wants only type 2 embedded OMF's and PT can't deal with OMF's that have multiple sample rates or file types. Automatic duck may make sure you generate a compatible OMF? but it's also not that hard to render all you audio to the same SR and format and really despite what Apple's PR says you should not be mixing and matching anyway.

A really cheap work around on a one shot basis is to get someone with digitranslator to extract the OMF into a PT session for you. It's been awhile but I believe that you can generate a non embedded OMF and email just the OMF file (not the media) and someone like me can open it and create the session file and email it back to you. You would need to relink but...

Now this only works on a limited basis, I'm not going to be converting 60 OMF's for you but if you need a few it's not a problem.
