Pro CS3 v.s. 2.0

I just installed Pro CS3 and opened an existing 2.0 project and rendered some existing clips. The rendering is at least 3x faster when using 2.0! Why does CS3 render so much slower! I noticed in the preferences there is an option to set rendering to be optimal for memory instead of performance but mine was already set to performance. I am using the same scratch disks in both versions. Has anyone else noticed this?

I notice that CS3 is a resource hog as well. Sometimes it takes 2 minutes to regain control when I switch between applications. CS3 seems to ALWAYS be doing something in the background, like checking file links and such which slow everything down considerably. I have a dual xeon 3.4/6gb RAM/7800GTX so my system shouldn't be *that* slow.

Maybe a little slower, but a whole lot better, in nearly every performance measure but timeline render speed, so I really can't complain.

Somethings very wrong in your system then because I can switch between PPRO , AEFX and Photoshop immediately and as soon as the timelines or panes are drawn in the app (very quickly) I can work on them.
