Printer/Scanner/Copier - all in one - suggestions

Well, I've just about had it with my Epson CX6600 and its tempermental decisions of when it chooses to scan properly, so I'm looking to upgrade.

I'd still like an all in one (with fax would be good, but not essential) and I'd like to avoid Epson based on previous experiences.

I'm working on Mac G5 OSX 10.4.9

My biggest needs are:

* a good scanner, mostly used for importing pics/images into FCP - so, a big enough flatbed and one that will allow multiple pics to be scanned as separate files, at once.

* good enough printer for documents, mostly b&w, but with some color (I have another photo printer I use for photos and printing DVD labels)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... I also would like to keep it between $100-$200 - so obviously I understand I'm not getting top of the line. Just something that plays nice with my mac and gives me consistent quality scanning and printing.

I've had a Canon MP450 for alittle over a year now. I've been using it for scanning photos, printing out dvd wraps and labels and I have not had one problem with it yet, and that is putting working it pretty hard. The only downside is the ink is alittle expensive, around 30 bucks a cartridge.

It will do muti-scanning and the cost was right around 100 bucks.

I agree, Epson can be troublesome. My last Epson all in one died bit by bit, and support was no help- "Send it back at your expense, and we may do something about it...". But, they were also the only ones that print on disks in the U.S. when I shopped for a new one. So, again I am stuck with them.

I think that what you are looking for will be with Canon, but it won't likely have all the features you want in that price range.

I have the Epson R220 that prints directly onto CD/DVD's, it works great for that.

As I already have too much stuff/ not enough room, I wanted an all in one, and Epson was it over here. The exact same model of Canon sold in Europe prints on disks, but not the US model. I call BS on that.

Yeah that ticked me off that I would have to buy another printer just to do disk face printing. Aparently, Epson holds some kind of patent that they are the only printers sold in the US that can do disk face printing.

You can get adaptor plates for the canon, but not for an older model like mine.

Epson isn't the only printer that will do disks in the US, just the only all in one unit in the US. Canon had one nice little photo printer that does disks, and pretty cheap too. But, this has nothing to do with this guy's question.

yes! I have this printer and for DISC prints it works great. In fact for 3x5 prints it really does a spectacular job...

However, I have this printer and the HP2355. To me, for quality of prints nothing compares to HP. NOTHING! Aside from a fax this an printer has it all....great scanning skills, excellent printing ability and can totally do the copies.

PS Peace out!

I have an HP laserjet 3380 That scans great and prints really fast, but it's BW. My wife uses an HP D145, which is color and is also a card reader, but I think it's not being made anymore. I own about 5 printers and the only on that is not an HP is my Epson r220. HP makes great peripherals.

Just giving the facts on the canon printers. I know he mentioned that he has another printer for disk printing, but its always nice to know the benefits and limitations of a printer, which I think he was asking about.

thanks for the responses... I decided to go with the Canon Pixma MP530 - I got it at Staples after a $30 automatic rebate and a $20 Staples rewards certificate for the low low price of $165 (with tax) so that was well within my range and it has a fax to boot.

I got it tonight and so far so good (of course its only the beginning, but the features and the software seem to outweigh what I had with the epson). Its also got the Auto Document Feeder, multiple paper sources etc... very good machine for Business uses with SOME artisitic purposes...

So, hopefully my r320 will hold on long enough as a disk printer.
