Printer : disc printing support

Looking for some recommendation here. I'd like to buy a printer, with the ability to print on printable CD/DVD media. I hear that many companies and models supports it, but I'd like some recommendation before buying one.
There's a store near where I live that fills the toner and they sell a couple models. I've been told that there's one (can't remember if it's Brother, Epson or Canon) that sells for about 100-120$ at the moment. This would do as he said.

I'll probably use it (mostly) to print some text documents as well as disc for my own project. The use won't be for commercial printing!

Thanks!

Saw on Taky's blog that the Taiyo Yuden discs were the best available. Found on a canadian reseller that have them in stock at an affordable price. Even have some Silver inkjet hub printable ones.
Any recommendation on the discs brand as well?

For small runs I've had great results with Canon inkjet printers and matte-silver Taiyo Yuden / Verbatim discs. The end result almost looks like silk-screening.

I have an Epson Artisan at home that prints on discs. I think it does a great job for what it is. You just have to make sure you don't print on the clear part of the disc towards the center, because that smudges like a b!@*#. I've also used some of the newer Epson printers that print on discs and they've worked fine. I haven't done any crazy graphics on the discs, mostly logos and text, but it never failed.

I think the key is to have a few sacrificial discs to use so you can dial in exactly where your printer thinks the outside and inside edges of the disc are. Then you're good to go.

Thanks guys!
A fellow member on another forum sent me a .psd template to make the designs. I'll see when I'll get the printer!

Whichever model you choose I highly recommend sticking with Epson. We are running two, an all in one office printer and a 13" wide carriage dedicated fine art/photo printer. Best drivers and support by far whether you run Macs or PC's. We use both. No issues with installation or operation over wired or wireless network.
Can't say the same for the Canon and HP printers our Epsons replaced. The art printer does great disc prints too, but at $800 is probably more than you are considering. :cheesy:

I have been using a Primera (Bravo Pro) since 2008. They also make a unit that only prints discs (autoPrinter SE).
I have been using Ritek Ridata 4.7GB 4X and 8X white hub printable DVD-R since ~2004 with no complaints from customers. I also use Taiyo Yuden Premium 8X and 16X DVD-R discs as well, though not as much as the Ritek ones. I had to replace 1 TY disc for a customer, no Ritek replacements...yet
Works with Mac and PC. We have done disc distribution on small run (500 count) productions as well as local events 20-200 discs at a time. I also tried a water shield type DVD white finish for one run and it printed well too.
