PRINT TO VIDEO

NEED EMERGENCY HELP!

I am having trouble printing to video, and I have to submit my project on Tuesday. I am running Final Cut Express 2 and using my Panasonic DVX 100A.

When I print to video, the quality of the playback on the computer is fine. But the quality of the recorded image on the camera is very poor. The image shakes and I am not sure why. I checked my firewire connections and everything is in order. I can capture fine, but when going from the computer to the camera...I am running into problems.

Is there some setting that I need to adjust the Panasonic to in order to recieve the video?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

It was shot in 24P. I don't think I know what the timeline framerate is. How would I check that out?

I put a few filters on some of the images and some transitions as well.

But it plays fine on the computer.

Very weird.

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

Since you're in Final Cut Express it's most likely standard 29.97

one thing to watch out for is interlace artifacts from moving the image vertically or resizing. Since you're starting with 24p this would only affect the interlaced frames (where 24p is put to 60i in camera)
Check that the quality is set for best and that your machine can output to video at full speed. Try turning off filters to see if there's any dfference.

Check finished result on a monitor or a tv.

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

I have never been able to do a print to video from final cut to my DVX-100. No matter what setting or format. I could go to a sony cheapo cam, an expensive sony deck, a canon gl2, but never my Panasonic. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

UPDATE!

I figured out why I was having trouble printing to video. For whatever strange reason, I can not print to video any file that is saved to my exteral drive. I copied the exact same file to my internal drive, hit print to video and the quality was great.

Hope this helps if anyone else encounters the same problem.

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

If you're going to be using external drives and camera (in/out) then it's best if you have 2 firewire buses. Macs have 1 bus even if they have multiple ports so you'll need to get a card.
If you have 2 or more devices on the bus then the data has to move from one to the computer and then at the same time go from the computer to the other device. This makes transferring data questionable and in any case the firewire is slowed down the slowest device.

Re: PRINT TO VIDEO

It was just the reference file that I had to copy. It would have been a pain if I had to transfer all the capture files as well.

I am using a multi-port firewire hub, and that may have had something to do with it.

At the end of the day, I had to bring my harddrive to somebody's house and had them do the print to video for me. I ended up getting raped, but I'm glad now that I can print to video at home.

The end product comes out in two weeks, if anyone want to check it out, here's the link.
