Folks;
We had finished shooting his segment but I wanted to report the unfortunate news that Mr. Newt Heisley passed away today, one week before he was to be married.

Mr. Heisley was the principal subject in my film. He was the designer of the POW/MIA flag that we have all seen. It is subject of my film. Just a little information for my friends here. Newt Heisley was a WWII veteran who flew troop transport planes in the South Pacific. He was 88 years young. A walking Google who could speak fluently on any subject, a creative and humble man who's aircraft was once attacked on the ground by a Kamikaze pilot. He often wondered what it would be like to be taken captive during the war. Later Newt was the principal designer for an ad agency that created the flag during the Vietnam War. The bowed head on the flag was modeled after his son, a marine recruit who became ill during basic training and returned home quite emaciated. Although the flag was created during the Vietnam era, Newt said he wanted the flag to be a symbol for all veterans. My film becomes all the more important to me now as I want it to be a memoriam to my good friend. I just wish he could have lived long enough to see it come to completion. The words on Newt's flag now have very special meaning.

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN

note: after the services I plan to place a tribute to Newt on the film's website. I didn't think it appropriate to place the tribute there now.

Joker... this is sad news, please accept my condolences on the loss of your friend. Thanks to you, he will not be forgotten. God bless.

Thank you Joe. He lived a full life and made a difference! Now it is up to me to honor him by doing the best job I can do in his memory.

He did seem to live a full life, and it's good to see he was around long enough for the right person to record him for prosperity.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your dear freind Newt. I too had the distinct honor of knowing him. My heart fell as I heard of his passing just today. He shall not be forgotten especially by those who knew him. And thanks to you his memory shall remain alive for generations to come. I salute you and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your work in bringing such an historic event to the eyes of the public. I say this not only for myself, my fellow veteran's but also for all the children now and in the future who will look at the POW-MIA flag and understand it's significance and the pride and patriotism of it's designer. God Bless.

Thanks sincerely, and also for your service time. When the film is completed, I plan to make a percentage of any sales, available to charitable veterans organizations that directly help veterans and their families. I think Newt would have liked that.

It must have been amazing to work with the man, a piece of "Living History" at the time.
Sad to hear such another valuable person has left us. He was probably very excited to tell his story and have it remembered in film. There are not many of these "great" individuals left in out there, time is taking them way too fast. I would also be very interested in seeing the finished project. Best of luck to you and your team Sir.

thank you for the information posted on the first post of this thread, so sorry to hear about such a person having to leave us, I wish I would of had the pleasure of meeting him.
I am really looking forward to your film. please let us know when it is complete and where I can see it.
thanks again for the post.
