ok so ive finally got my first official paid job with the DVX.

A dance troop wants me to shoot a few of their rehearsals, and a  ashow, and compile it edited to a DVD.  They probably don't have too much money.

what do you think is a fair price for thsi sort of thing?  i ask because honestly i have no idea what to charge.  But htis sounds like it will be a significant amount of work.

jus throw some numbers up.

thanks guys.  when i get paid, im officaialy a professional... lol no not yet.

Also, anyone have any experience recording sound at a loud event, are there any tricks for getting decent sound?  like lower input levels, then boost in post? or anyhtign like that?  i have VERY little audio experince. and will have to buy a mic for this job.

thank you for any help

Re: pricing

Who are you selling to -- the dance troupe, or the parents/grandparents/family members who come to watch the performance?

When we were first starting out, we offered to do these kind of gigs for free (to the troupe) provided they let us sell the copies.  We usually did school concerts, and you could usually sell 100 to 150 copies, and keep $10 to $20 each, so a gross of anywhere from $1000 to $3000. The band director would send home flyers with the kids to nag the parents into ordering, and it was an official fundraiser because we'd donate cash to the band for every copy sold. We'd set up a table with a big banner saying "videos for sale" and take orders during the show. Usually you'd get about half your orders during the show, and half pre-ordered.

If you're actually billing the dance troupe, and they're making the copies and selling it themselves, count on *low* wages, maybe $500 or so.  But I don't know, it's been many years since I've done this kind of thing.
